There are currently 12 potable water treatment plants serving in İstanbul. Using latest technologies, these plants have conducted ozone and activated carbon applications first time in Turkey. The quality changes and plant effluent is constantly examined and required actions are taken immediately.

Potable Water Treatment Plants generally consist of these sections: 
-Aeration Unit
-Ozoning Unit
-Fast Mixing Unit
-Slow Mixing Unit
-Sedimentation Unit
-Filtration Unit
-Clean Water Tank
-Sludge Drying Unit

Aeration Unit: 
The first unit that raw water from dams or lakes enters is the aeration unit. The parameters such as odour, taste and ammoniac in raw water here is removed into the atmosphere in the aeration pools while parameters such as iron, manganese and organic matters are oxidized to levels suitable for the treatment plant.

Ozoning Unit:
The microorganisms in water are removed within this unit and the odour and taste of the water is regulated. The ozone generated is released into the water coming from the aeration unit via the diffusers at the bottom of the contact tank.

Fast Mixing Unit:
Here the coagulant matters with positive charge (iron trichlorine, aluminum sulphate and iron sulphate) and matters with negative charge are mixed with homogeneously polyelectrode.

Slow Mixing Unit: 
To flocculate the materials neutralized in the fast mixers with the effect of the coagulant material, these are taken to the slow mixing unit.  The slow mixing process here provides flocculation of these materials.

Sedimentation Unit: 
the materials flocked in raw water in the slow mixing tank are separated from the water here.

Filtration Unit: 
The flocks that could not be removed in the sedimentation unit are removed in this unit. 

Clean Water Tank: 
Treated water from the filter unit undergoes final disinfection and taken into clean water tanks to be released into the network.

Sludge Dewatering Unit:
sludge water from various units of the plant are dewatered to a certain level in line with the dewatering unit regulations and then removed from the plant to be delivered to regular storage areas.
