Water Use Awareness” Activities for Students by ISKI

In order to raise sensitive generations on protecting the water resources, which are the lifeblood of Istanbul, and to enable young generations to recognize and own water and wastewater investments; the activities to be held in schools in 2018-2019 school year were introduced within the scope of “Istanbul, the City making Peace with Water - Protocol on Cooperation in Education” signed between İSKİ and Istanbul Provincial Directorate of National Education.

The opening ceremony was held at ISKI Central Campus Conference Hall and Fatih Turan, General Director of ISKI, Levent Yazıcı, Istanbul Provincial National Education Director, many students and teachers attended the ceremony. At the ceremony, Fatih Turan emphasized the importance of improving water awareness among children and expressed that the number of students are increasingly continuing every year with the activities and organizations carried out within the scope of the Protocol on Cooperation in Education signed in 2016 and he thanked Levent Yazıcı for their support.

Education activities and organizations carried out up to now within the scope of “Istanbul, the City making Peace with Water - Protocol on Cooperation in Education”

 

  • Students are given the opportunity to examine closely the water resources and facilities with the daily field trips to the potable water resources and waste water treatment plants.
  • Students are informed about water use awareness and savings issues at 4 different schools every day with the Water Use Awareness Seminars reaching 200,839 students last 10 years 
  • Competitions are organized in the categories of composition, poetry, photography, cartoons, slogans and posters for secondary and high school students so as to create awareness about water, to draw attention to the methods of saving water and to think about the protection of water resources.
  • The importance of water in our lives is presented to students through interactive games with the theatrical performances of the play “Damlacık Okullarda” (Droplet at Schools) which won great appreciation of the primary school students.
  • Activity booklets for kindergartens and plants models for secondary school students were distributed in accordance with the course curriculum so as to draw attention to the adventure of water which is our life source.
